Muse Architects CC was established in Port Elizabeth in the Eastern Cape of South Africa in 2008. The Muse team’s combined years of experience are extensive but we pride ourselves on the passion and fresh ideas which we bring to the table as a fairly young company.
We are very much practically involved in all our projects and our team is up to any challenge. We constantly seek innovation and we apply our working knowledge of different materials to experimentation with different solutions while working within our client’s budget.
Although we focus mainly on architecture and interior design, we do not believe that these elements should be seen in isolation and we apply an integrated approach to our projects while making use of our skills in 3D visualisation and graphic design, business concept development and model making, or any combination thereof.
We never approach any project with preconceived ideas and, we not only take pleasure in our work, but also in providing our clients with exactly what they need as well as what they really want.
Phillip Loots, founder and owner of Muse Architects, spent four years in London where he was part of a prestigious and award-winning team of designers who worked on high-end projects, published in a number of well-known architectural magazines. Upon returning to his hometown of Port Elizabeth in 2006, he recognised the architectural growth of the city and surrounds and the need for passionate designers who understood and respected what their clients wanted and needed.
Despite his commitment to completing a master’s degree in architecture at the Nelson Mandela Metropolitan University at the time, he also took on several private projects. Two years on, the demand for his skills and expertise had grown by such leaps and bounds that Muse Architects CC was born.
The practice has since grown to include a number of talented architectural and interior design staff.
At Muse Architects we believe that the choice of architectural design and the elements that accompany it is a fiercely personal one. Therefore, we recommend that clients meet with our team to establish exactly what their needs and wants are. This is done in order to provide the client with a costing estimate, timeline and feasibility study. Of course, our services can then also extend to project management and business concept development.

We consider the people we design for as the most important aspect of any project. Therefore, we always undertake to understand the end-user’s needs and wants and to provide a unique and qualitative experience.
Furthermore, we always conduct a thorough analysis of the location, culture and surrounds of each project. Our design never disrupts but rather ties in harmoniously with its environment while always grabbing the attention of a viewer.
We challenge convention through the exploration of the alternative yet highly functional use of materials, construction, detailing and function. We create exciting and visually appealing designs and believe that our team grow as individuals as a result.
Our focus is always on finding a truly environmentally conscious solution through the use of highly functional, qualitative and detailed designs in terms of materials and construction methods. The result stands the test of time while respecting the environment.
Muse employees are encouraged to grow within their respective disciplines while engaging with each other and clients in a responsible, pro-active and inquisitive manner. We attempt to achieve this through regular research, travel and theoretical discussions.
Finally, we view each project as a challenge, regardless of its size. Therefore, we strive to develop innovative and creative solutions that not only always satisfy the brief, but also exceed the client’s expectations.
Muse Architects’ offerings include new structures, additions and alterations for residential, commercial, educational, industrial and governmental structures. This also encompasses the appraisal and definition of projects; the design and development of sketch plans; securing authority approvals; designing working drawings; setting up tender documentation; and managing contract administration. No project is too big or too small.
The Muse team offers exceptional proficiency in the interior design of residential, retail, commercial, educational, and hospitality-orientated spaces, whether it is a complete redesign or simply applying small yet effective changes to existing venues. Furthermore, we also offer exclusive and personalised product and furniture design for our clients and/or their brands.
Graphic design and 3D Visualisation go hand-in-hand at Muse and can be applied either to our own projects or others brought in from other companies. Each of these projects then undergoes an extensive process in order to produce the required graphic and/or 3D result.
Business concept development and branding
Clients are encouraged to bring their business ideas and allow the Muse team to assist them with determining the feasibility of a project. This includes market research, conceptualisation, branding, building and interior design. This is the first practical step in turning an excellent idea into a successful reality.
Muse staff members are adept at creating models for projects ranging from high-end buildings to artistic sculptures.
