The Sound of Music holds special memories for so many people around the world and is one of the most beloved musicals of all time. The movie, released in 1965 and winner of the Academy Award for Best Picture and Best Director, captured the hearts of everyone who watched Julie Andrews bring Maria to life in her breakthrough role. Countless professional and amateur productions have made this show an enduring crowd favourite and, after 17 years, a new generation of P.E. audiences can experience the magic of The Sound of Music.

The coveted role of Maria will be played by Maryanne van Eyssen, fresh from her stunning performances in Dancing Down Broadway and a veteran of both the National and International touring productions of the show. Local radio and theatre personality Paul Leonard will recreate the role of Captain von Trapp and popular Bay singer Tara-Jane Stern, a regular in many Centrestage hit shows, will play Baroness Elsa Schräder. Joining them will be consummate professional Chireen Ferreira, as the Mother Abbess, Glen McIlroy as Rolf, and a cast of 14 young people who will bring to life the von Trapp children in two teams playing in alternate performances.

Almost everyone can hum a few bars of the unforgettable songs in The Sound of Music, from the inspirational Climb Every Mountain to the von Trap children’s My Favorite Things and Do Re Mi. The score also includes the haunting Edelweiss, The Lonely Goatherd, So Long, Farewell and the title song The Sound of Music.

G&S is excited to be working for the first time with Director Greg Everard, fresh from Alexander Road High School’s stunning production of Cinderella. Dario Broccardo, also from Cinderella, debuts with G&S as Musical Director and choreography will be devised by well-known local, award winning, teacher Siobhan Day.
